The upper Usk Valley, from Brecon to Crickhowell, has one of the most significant populations of lesser horseshoe bats in Europe. Kirsty is officer for the “Our Beacon for Bats” project, The Vincent Wildlife Trust’s exciting new lesser horseshoe bat conservation project in South Wales. It is a 3 year project, funded by the Brecon Beacons Trust and the Heritage Lottery Fund, which will build on conservation work carried out by The Vincent Wildlife Trust over many years. Kirsty will talk about her work to raise awareness of the importance of lesser horseshoe bats in the upper Usk Valley by working with local people, schools and community groups and providing opportunities for people to learn about the ecology and environmental needs of this bat species and how to identify the lesser horseshoe bat in the field. If there is sufficient interest, the talk will be followed by a field trip in the Spring programme. For more information go to the Vincent Wildlife Trust website at: http://www.vwt.org.uk/bats.php.
