We will climb over Pen y Bryn to Rhiw Bwlch y Ddwyallt and East to Carn Pica, then down into Cwm Banu to pick up the Usk Valley Walk. A small detour past the little church of Llanfeugan before a gentle return on lanes for tea and cake at Magpie Cottage.

The terrain is generally quite good but there are parts of the route with no path. The ascent is mostly gradual but with one steep and rocky section.
Boots essential due to peat bog on Mynnydd Llangattock.
Drink afterwards in the Vine tree!

A circular walk in the Black Mountains using Offa’s Dyke Path to ascend to the remains of the 2500 year old hill fort. Returning on the Beacons Way, fields and lanes.
All ascends and descents to be taken at Wednesday Wander pace.

The walk will start from my cottage in Llanfrynach and you will need to park on the road nearby. GR: SO 075258 OS Map OL12. We will start the day with a long, steady climb of just over 600m up to the Bwlch y Ddwyallt. Then we will make our way westwards around the huge rim of Craig Cwm Oergwm and to Fan-y- Big. With good visibility the views are stupendous. From Fan-y- Big we descend very carefully along Cefn Cyff
and then back across the fields to Llanfrynach.
At the end of the walk there will be tea and cake at Magpie Cottage.

From Carreg Cennen Castle GR SN 666193. Through farmland up on to the Black Mountain. Visit pillow mounds, farm enclosures, burial cairns and a trig point, before returning through farmland again to Carreg Cennen Castle. Car park at Carreg Cennen is owned by the National Park and there are tea rooms at the castle. Please note – the toilets in the car park are closed.

Meet at Blackmill, near Bridgend. Grid ref: SS933868. In the centre of Blackmill turn in at the war memorial, which is in front of a garage. Go past the garage and immediately right
(cafe on the corner), then left over the river bridge into a free car park.
The route takes us up the right hand side of the Ogwr Fawr, climbing up Cwm Y Fuwch, over the mountain to Gilfach Goch and the Ogwr Fach, before returning to Blackmill.
