Wednesday 4th June ..... Rock Talk
FFOREST FAWR GEOPARK - THE FIRST 480 MILLION YEARS.
7.30pm at the Bear Hotel, Crickhowell. 
Join BBNPA’s geopark development officer, Alan Bowring for the long perspective on how Fforest Fawr came to be what it is today and where it’s heading next!

Saturday 14th June
TALK AND WALK WITH THE AGM. 
In the Henderson Hall (GR SO 113229) and around the Talybont-on-Usk area.
The plan for the day is:
 9.30am Doors open.
10.30am A talk, in the Henderson Hall, by John Jones, who used to run Danywenallt,
to tell us about the Canal, the Brinore Tramroad, and the Taff Trail, which all converge on Talybont.
11.30am Coffee!
12.00 noonAnnual General Meeting.
1.00pm
(or on completion of AGM)  Buffet lunch in the Henderson Hall.
2.00pm  Two walks, both starting as one group from the Henderson Hall
and going along the canal and up the lowest section of the Brinore Tramroad. 
                  Our speaker, John Jones, will lead us off and will draw attention to several points of special interest. 
                  We then split into two groups.  
                  One which will be led by Roger White, roughly follows the Henry Vaughan walk for a gentle stroll back to Henderson Hall, a total of about 2.5 miles.
                  The other which John will continue to lead will cross the col on the north side of Tor y Foel, and return via Llandetty along the tow path, 
                  a total of about 6 miles.
4.00pm onwards - Tea in the Henderson Hall.
5.00pm Doors close.

Friday 20th June ….. Working in the Park

MOUNTAIN CENTRE AND MYNYDD ILLTYD.
10.00am - 12.30pm 8km (5miles) Moderate
 

Meet at National Park Visitor Centre (Mountain Centre), Libanus GR SN 977262 (parking fee).

A gentle walk across Mynydd Illtyd starting from the Mountain Centre, looking at the impacts on and benefits to this small working common as an easily accessible area for recreation. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to admire spectacular views (weather permitting!), and we’ll return to the Mountain Centre in time for a hearty lunch or light refreshments at the tearooms.

Friday 4th July ..... More than a Walk
WORLD HERITAGE SITE CENTRE, BLAENAFON TOWN AND SURROUNDS.

10.00am - 4.30pm 11km (7 miles) Moderate
From the Prince Street Car Park below the Post Office and the Queen Victoria pub on the B4246, GR SO 251086. A tour of the new Heritage Centre which gives the history of the area and why it is a World Heritage Site followed by a tour of the town. In the afternoon there will be a walk to sites of interest. Coffee and a light lunch can be purchased at the Heritage Centre.

Friday 11th July ..... Walk and Talk  
INSIDE BRECON'S HISTORIC BUILDINGS.
10.30am - 4.00pm About 1.6km (1 mile) Easy
 
Meet outside the reception at Christ College, Bridge Street, Brecon SO 0426-2845 (parking available there - use the entrance nearest to the Usk river) for a guided tour around these splendid and historically important buildings dating from c.1250 and constitute the largest group of standing Dominican structures in Britain. A short walk across the town, with a look at the Castle 'Great Hall' ruin (1280) will be followed by lunch at choice of venues (orders taken on the day), a look around the exhibits at the Cathedral Heritage Centre and at 2.30pm a guided tour around the Cathedral itself, parts of which date from c.1201. This will be a rare chance to examine two of Brecon's most significant historical artefacts in the presence of local experts.

Saturday 19th July ..... A Walk for Navigators
INTO THE UNKNOWN.
10.30am - 4.30pm 9km (5.5 miles) Moderate                           
Park in any of the nearby car parks on the A4069 and meet at the entrance to Cwar Penrhiw-wen (Disused Quarry) GR SN 7298-1803 to  begin the walk. A circuit of the wilderness area around Garreg Lwyd  with a detailed look at some of the navigational problems to be encountered in this remote area. (Bring your OL 12 map, compass and GPS if you have one). Participants will have an opportunity to navigate and lead the group on various sections of the walk. Telephone the leader for details.

Friday 25th July
BEACONS WAY ART TRAIL. 
10.30am - 4.00pm 11 km ( 7 miles) Moderate  
Walk and conversation with sculptor Richard Renshaw to see his art work installed on the Day 3 section of the Beacons Way, with a visit to his workshop en route.    From Cwmdu Village Hall (parking fee) SO 180239. A circular route along lanes, footpaths and a short section of the Beacons Way.  Richard will talk about his piece of work in situ, and we will also visit his workshop where he will explain his creative methods for producing the work. (Information about the Beacons Way Art Trail is on the Society website and copies of the Art Trail book ' 8 carreg 8 arlunydd - 8 stones 8 artists' published by Little Fish Press are available from bookshops, or contact David Moore 01874 611152 or Robert MacDonald

THE SPIRIT OF PLACE – The paintings of David Jones and the Landscape of Capel-y-ffin.

11.00am - 3.00pm About 5km (3miles) Moderate

Park in the field next to Chapel Farm, Capel-y-ffin (opposite the church) GR SO 255315 (Parking £1) for a short walk around Capel-y-ffin reflecting on the impact which this most especial landscape had on the Anglo-Welsh artist and writer David Jones who lived and worked at the monastery, and other artists who worked in the same area.
