3 Peaks of Wales fundraising event Saturday 30 June 2012

For anyone interested in fundraising for the St David’s Foundation Hospice Care, information about this and other events are on their website www.stdavidsfoundation.co.uk. 

On Saturday 30 June they are looking for teams of 5, four walkers and one driver preferably. Registration will be in Llanberis Fri 29 June, ready for a very early start Saturday. The peaks are Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen Y Fan, all in one day.

Entry £25 per team; Foundation then requesting team sponsorship minimum £500.

 

Brecon Beacons Park Society AGM 2012

The Park Society AGM will be held on Saturday, 16 June, 2012, at Myddfai Community Hall and Visitor Centre. The centre is recognized as one of the most stunning and well-equipped venues in the area, and  is three miles from Llandovery. All members welcome. More details to follow, but reserve the date!

 

Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal celebrates its 200 years!

The Brec & Mon canal is 200 years old this year. The celebrations get under way this Friday – February 10th with a peel of bells along the length of the canal. For more information on the launch event click here.

A classic walk on Pen y Fan, in “Country Walking”

The March 2012 edition of Country Walking magazine describes a classic walk over the northern slopes to Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Fan y Big as one of their ” Walks to do before you die”.  Route described from the car park at the foot of Cefn Cwm Llwch ridge, return via Cefn Cyff ;  9 & 3/4 miles, challenging, 6-7 hrs.  Some striking photographs in article.

First Woman to traverse the Antarctic solo by muscle power alone.

January 30, 2012

Felicity Aston returns to Heathrow on 31st January having become the first woman ever to traverse Antarctica solo and by muscle power alone. She is giving presentations at the Swan Hotel, Hay on 1st March at 7.30pm (tickets from the Swan),  Eardisley Village Hall on 2nd March (tickets from Forge Framing Shop in the village) and  The Courtyard, Hereford (tickets from the Courtyard). E-petition to stop off-roading in National Parks

A member  of GLEAM (Green Lanes Environment Action Movement), who lives in the Peak District National Park, has raised an e-petition on the Government to stop off-roading by motor vehicles in National Parks. This e-petition can be found at

The Ramblers Association and CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) are supportive of this petition.

 

Minister decision re Cwrt Y Gollen development

The Welsh Government Environment and Sustainability Minister, John Griffiths, has decided to accept the Inspector’s recommendation to reject the appeal from Crickhowell Estates regarding their proposed development at Cwrt Y Gollen.

 

Crickhowell Walking Festival

November 29, 2011

The Crickhowell Walking Festival runs from 25th Feb to 4th March 2012. Booking is now open at www.crickhowellfestival.com. Society Members do not have to pay for walks with a BBPS logo against them, but do need to book. For all other walks and events members do need to book and pay.
