Anne Pritchard
Anne left school at 16 and worked in the civil service until leaving to have babies, restore a 16th Century house in the Cotswolds, grow vegetables and make chutney, her “earth mother” phase.
The family moved to Wales in 1983. Anne studied geography and history as a mature student at Cardiff University, before joining the Patent Office as a Trade Marks Examiner and later Hearing Officer.
She fell in love with the mountains and developed an interest in the making of the landscape on geography field trips and studying landscape history. She has been hill walking in South Wales and the Brecon Beacons for over 20 years, and a member of the Society since the creation of the Guided Walks programme in 1999.
When she was approaching retirement in 2004 Anne went on Navigation, First Aid and Walking Group Leader training courses, and became a volunteer walk leader with the Society and the National Park. Anne co-led the Beacons Way 8-day trek every year from its official launch in 2005 until 2010 (six times east to west and twice west to east).
She assisted Jim Wilson when he was Guided Walks and Events Secretary from 2006 to 2010, and took over as Guided Walks and Events Secretary when Jim stood down in June 2010. Anne also represents the Society on the Beacons Way Steering Group.
