LLANTHONY SOUTHERN CIRCUIT. 9.00am - 4.00pm ish 21km (13miles) Energetic.   
Meet at Llanthony Priory car park GR SO 288278 Map OL13. A Circuit climbing above Llanthony valley on Offa’s Dyke and heading down to Three Wells and Cwmyoy returning via the Bal Bach and Cwm Bwchel ridge. No dogs please.

Sunday 5th September .... Past the Park     
EXPLORE THE LOWER MYNYDD EPYNT. 9.30am - 4.30pm 22km (14 miles) Moderate/Energetic
From the village hall in Llanfihangel-nant-Bran 9 miles north west of Brecon GR SN 944343 (suggested donation £1). The walk includes a stretch of the Epynt Way to join the old routes along the ridges above the Bran and Cilieni valleys and the villages of Llan-nant-Bran and Pentrebach. Last time it rained heavily but hoping this time for good views across the National Park.

LLANTHONY NORTHERN CIRCUIT, TO CAPEL-Y-FFIN, A STANDING STONE AND THEN SOME! 9.30am - 4.30pm 23km (14.3 miles) Strenuous
Meet at Llanthony Priory car park GR SO 288278. Up to Offa’s Dyke for a mile or two. Then down to Capel-y-ffin and further north along Darren Lwyd for lunch beside a delightful waterfall on Nant Bwch. Back along various geological features, for a well-deserved visit to the Priory.

Saturday 11th September ....Two peaks                               
BLORENGE AND SUGAR LOAF. 10.00am - 5.30pm  24km (15 miles) Strenuous
From Abergavenny TIC (car parking charges) GR SO 301140 along Castle Meadow to Llanfoist and up the Blorenge North face to the trig. Continuing to Glangrwyney (some road walking) and onto the Sugar Loaf returning down the Rholben to St Marys Vale.  A bit of a walk!

From Forestry Commission “Neuadd” car park in the Taff Fechan Forest GR SO 036171 1km south of the dam. A classic circuit of the Beacons from the Neuadd Reservoir.

TABLE MOUNTAIN AND THE TWO GRWYNES. 10.00am - 4.00pm 16km (10 miles) Moderate
Meet at the lay-by at the lodge entrance to the Crwt y Gollen training ground GR SO 230171. A walk across fields up to Table Mountain then a return alongside the Grwyne Fechan and the Grwyne Fawr.

WATERFALLS, RIDGES AND RESERVOIRS OF THE CENTRAL BEACONS. 10:00am - 3:00pm 14km (9 miles) Moderate

Meet at the Blaen-y-glyn car park GR SO 056176 for a circular walk in the central Beacons.  The route follows a series of small waterfalls, then takes the ridge to the spectacular Blaen Caerfanell waterfall, and round the escarpment to Fan y Big. Returning via the Gap, the Neuadd Reservoirs and the Taff Trail.

From Erwood Craft Centre GR SO 089439, Climbing up northwest to Waun Hirwaun, heading south on the open access area to Cefn Clawdd then east back down to the centre.

Meet in the car park (fee) of the National Park Visitor Centre (the Mountain Centre) at Libanus GR SN 978263 for a walk taking in Fan Frynach, Craig Cerrig Gleisiad, the Tommy Jones obelisk and Pen Milan before returning across the Glyn Tarell valley.

CARREG CADNO and Y WERN.
9.30am - 4.00pm 22km (13 miles) Energetic
From lay-by on A4967 just south of Craig y Nos castle GR SN 840152. We use the Beacons Way to cross the Ogof Fynnon Ddu Nature Reserve over limestone terrain to Sarn Helen. We return through Y Wern forestry and minor roads, hopefully having time to see Henrhyd Falls.

BWLCH WITH ALTITUDE. 9.30am – 5.00pm 20km (12.5miles) Strenuous
Meet at New Inn
Bwlch GR SO 150220. North to Mynydd Llangorse and Cockit Hill then down to Llangorse to visit the 15th century church. Around the lake past the Crannog and on to Llangasty church. Then up to the Allt taking in the Paragon Tower and the ancient British fort on the top. Continue along the Allt and then down to Bwlch.

Sunday 26th September
NO LADY NO LAKE NO RIVER. 9.30am – 5.00pm 19.5km (12 miles) Strenuous
From the Water Board Car Park at GR SN 799238.Take the unclassified road which runs from Trecastle to the A 4069 between Llangadog and Brynaman. Follow signs to Llanddeusant, the Youth Hostel and Llyn y Fan Fach. We will go across Bryn Mawr, Fan Foel and Fan Brycheiniog, to Bwlch y Giedd, and the local vampire. Then to the disappearing river at Sinc y Giedd, an ancient settlement, and back via the western end of Bannau Sir Gaer. Since we will not be going to Llyn y Fan Fach the story of the lady is optional, and by request only!

Saturday 2nd October .... Just Past the Park     
EAST FOR A CHANGE
 10.00am - 4.00pm 18km (11 miles)  Energetic
Meet at the southern end of Walterstone Common GR SO 352256. Along and down to the new bridge across the Monnow then up onto Hatterrall Ridge and Offa's Dyke/Beacons Way. Along and then down to Longtown and Clodock before ascending Mynydd Ferddin and return to the start.

Sunday 3rd October
HILL, WATERFALLS AND HISTORIC SITES - OLD AND NEW. 9.30am - 5.00pm 19km (12miles) Energetic
From the car park by the bridge over the river Usk at GR SN 820272. Up to the trig point on Mynydd Myddfai with spectacular views over the Towy valley. Look at the site of the pipeline before returning along the bridleway to cross the road on to Mynydd Llan, to see the Roman Camp, Stone Circles, a crash site and waterfalls.

UP TO THE BLACK HILL FROM HAY-ON-WYE. 9.30am - 6.00pm  32km (20 miles) Strenuous
Meet at Hay-on-Wye Car Park GR SO 229421 - opposite the Castle. Charge for car park but free parking is available in Car Park on Brecon Road by the playground / near fire station and on Forest Road. Walk will take us up over the back of Llanigon, following the Digidi Brook, to Gospel Pass, then up onto Offa’s Dyke and along the Black Hill. Returning via Olchon Valley and along Offa’s Dyke path  back to Hay.

LOOKING DOWN INTO THE VALLEYS. 10.00am - 4.00pm 13km (8 miles) Energetic

From the parking area at the eastern end of Blaengwynfi, just at the river bridge, GR SS 894964, up onto Mynydd Blaengwynfi to look down into the Rhondda Fawr valley at Treorci, then onto Craig Ogwr to look down into the Ogwr valley at Nant y Moel, Werfa to look down into the Garw valley at Blaengarw, and returning via Mynydd y Gelli.

Meet at the Walkers’ Car Park (£1) at Queens Head Inn GR SO 311221 near Cwmyoy. (The car park is just beyond the pub on the left as you go towards Llanthony).  Northwards along the ridge below the Gaer to the Revenge Stone, down into the Grwyne Fawr valley and up to the summit of Crug Mawr; down to Partrishow church and return round the back of the Gaer.

HIDDEN VALLEY AND MYNYDD LLANGATWG.

Meet at Crickhowell High School, New Road, Crickhowell GR SO 217185. Up the hidden valley of Cwm Onneu Fach to the Craig y Cilau Nature Reserve. Across the wilderness of Mynydd Llangatwg with sweeping views and a visit to the large swallow hole.  Descent by tramroad, woods and meadows to Legar.

MEIRIONNYDD COAST WALK is a splendid and often wild walk. There are rugged mountains, remote upland lakes, scenic estuaries and natural woodland in valleys where streams tumble over rocks. The walk is 72 miles/133 km from Aberdovey to Porthmadog. Please contact the leader for details and to book your place.

From a car park on the A4069 above Brynaman (NB NOT the usual car park at the top near the quarry) GR SN 720163. All the cairns in the farthest west of the Park.  Foel Deg-Arbed, Tair Carn Isaf, Tair Carn Uchaf, Carn pen y Clogau, Carn Pen Rhiw Du, and Garreg Lwyd, and some hard miles in between!

A CATS BACK RAMBLE. 11.00am - 3.00pm 12km (8miles) Moderate
Meet at the Black Hill picnic area, 7km north west of Longtown at GR SO 288328 for a classic Black Mountains ridge ramble. Up the narrow crest of the Cat’s Back, with great views on either side, to Black Hill, then over to Offa’s Dyke Path and on to Hay Bluff for its terrific panoramic outlook. Returning via the Olchon Valley and some pretty little waterfalls.

CARREG CENNEN CASTLE ROUNDABOUT. 10.00am - 4.00pm 11km (7miles) Moderate
From Carreg Cennen Castle GR SN 666193 through farmland up on to the Black Mountain. Visit pillow mounds, farm enclosures, burial cairns and a trig point, before returning through farmland again to Carreg Cennen Castle. Car park at Carreg Cennen Castle is owned by the National Park, and there are tea rooms next to the castle.

CUSOP HILL AND THE WYE VALLEY WALK.

Park at Hardwick (P on map but note space limited) GR SO 263438. A walk of mixed terrains: after farmland and the open ground of Cusop HIll, we skirt Hay and return along the WVW through meadows.

From Pont Cadwgan car park in Mynydd Du Forest GR SO 267251. Through the forest up to Bal Mawr and Chwarel y Fan, down over the Grwyne Fawr, up to Pen y Gadair Fawr, and back down through the forest. Mix of rough ground and forest tracks.

From the car park at Goytre Wharf GR SO 312064 (parking fee) to the memorial to the crew of the Blenheim Bomber that crashed in 1940, followed by a walk to the Goose and Cuckoo for soup.

Saturday 20th November .... Past the Park
WALKING ACROSS THE ROOF OF CARDIFF (1 of 3). 9.30am - 4.00pm 21km (13 miles) Energetic 
This is the first and middle section of three circular walks taking in some of the high ground and woodlands just north of Cardiff. This first section includes Wenallt woods, Castell Coch and its fairy tale castle, Craig-yr-Allt, Caerphilly Mountain, and The Warren. Starting from The Deri Inn car park Explorer map 151 GR ST156817 (corner of Heol-y-Deri and Wenallt Road, post code CF14 6UH). I have had permission from the pub for parking, please park around the edge of their car park, and your patronage would be appreciated at the end of the walk. No dogs please.

Lunch at Big Pit (picnic or in the canteen) then drive to the Foxhunter car park GR SO 263107 (arriving  1.30 - 2.00pm) for a walk on the Blorenge around places associated with the coal and iron industries. No dogs underground please.

NANT BWCH FROM GRWYNE FAWR. 10.00am - 5.00pm 18km (11 miles) Energetic

Meet at Blaen y Cwm car park at the top of the Grwyne Fawr valley for a gentle climb up to the Blacksmith’s Anvil and down the other side to Capel y Ffin. Then up the delightful little Nant Bwch valley, returning via the northern escarpment of the Black Mountains, Rhos Dirion and down to the reservoir.

PHYSICIANS ROMANS AND COUNTRYMEN. 9.30am - 5.00pm 19.5km (12 miles) Energetic
From the north side of the dam on the Usk Reservoir, by the boats, 2 houses and the hut for fishing licences.  GR SN 832290. A walk on Mynydd Myddfai and Mynydd y Lan, looking at 4 Roman forts and camps, Bronze Age stone circles - and the story of the Physicians of Myddfai, including a drink from their spring.
